McLuhan Style

Lookin fly' in a three piece suit

Even Mr. Marshall McLuhan understood the importance of looking good!

Finding Balance

Yes, it can be said that a hoody is the foundation of a comfortable outfit. Words such as "lazy" or "slack" may come to mind. However, hoodies can be stylish too. They come in tons of different fits and colours and as Matthea has demonstrated, can be incorporated into everyday outfits while still maintaining your personal style.

Let's hear it for the Boys

I think that it's fair to say that when it comes to fashion, the male species are slightly more hesitant when it comes to taking risks. Sometimes wearing pink or a pair of snazzy shoes can risk a man appearing "girly". Although it's important to stay true to yourself and wear what you like, feeling comfortable is always important. Both of these men I photographed look absolutely great. Nothing they are wearing is too 'risque" or vulgar, they just look presentable and put together, which suits them both very well.

All in the Details

Photo taken in West Mall outside Tim Hortons

In my opinion, fashion is all about the details. When this kind stranger you see pictured above allowed me to take her photograph one morning, I was utterly transfixed by the beautiful watch and bracelet she wore on her left wrist.  It is fascinating to me that humans have combined two different mediums, time and clothing, into one portable accessory. While her shirt and pants are also great, it was the smaller things such as the jewellery that really caught my attention.

Dress To Impress

Haley Clarke - 1st year Communications Student, photo taken outside lecture hall 9001

It is difficult to define what "good style" is. It all depends on a person's perspective. This outfit may not seem particularly spectacular to some people, but you have to admit, Haley looks great. She is confident, comfortable and thats is what's important. Maybe she doesn't have the latest look from Paris or Milan, but she always is put together and wears what she wants.

Before and After

There's something about "before and after" shots that we as a human species can't seem to get enough of.  Whether its a new hair colour, or a whole new wardrobe, the sudden change of ones appearance can cause a slur of different reactions. The altering of a persons hair colour can completely redefine them, especially if they act boldly and choose red! Red heads are notoriously known for being fierce, confident and sexy.

When it comes to back to school fashion, no matter what is "in style" at the time, students continue to return to the traditional preppy, school uniform inspired look. Cardigans, argyle print, knee socks and blazers are in full swing at Simon Fraser University. Television shows such as "Gossip Girl" are major sources of inspiration for this kind of style.
